Just taking some time to introduce myself.. I'm a retired public servant, on the path to the second half of my life's journey: Divorced & Re-married.

I had a past unpleasant experience, Rock Cod fishing, when I was much younger. It was a very windy day, with heavy ocean swells, & heavy diesel exhaust fumes in the air..So, I can't seem to overcome my " Nausea ", whenever I'm on the ocean.  

With the above in mind.. I'm primarily a freshwater fisherman :  " Mammoth Lakes Flyfishing / Local S.Cal Lakes & Rivers: Stripers & Catfishing

Also, try a transderm scopolamine patch.  Ask your doc for a prescription.  I won't go out without one.  I have opened a whole new world of salt water fishing for several people by recommending the patch.  Go for it.  Dominick

Thanks guys.. But my " Motion Sickness " has been getting worse with my old age  

My last " Saltwater Fishing Trip ", was on a buddies 24 ft boat ( No diesel fumes ) ,.. out on a beautiful day @ " Marina Del Rey, CA " Harbor ( 25 years ago ).

It felt like a very , very bad,  " Hangover ". I was sick for two days !

Beautiful gear -- well set up and thought out.

For 40 years, I have fished extensively the Eastern Sierras from just North of Bishop to Just South of Topaz.  Generally stay around Bridgeport.  Fish the Reservoir, the Twins, Virginias, Huniwell, Tamarack, Lobdell, Lundy, Convict, Walker, Roosevelt, Emma, and a ton of little high country lakes accessible by hiking.  Fish the creeks also.  Good rainbows, browns, hybrids, goldens.  Love that high western great basin country around 6500' to 9500' with the pines and cedars.

We just use a 15' Gregor with a 25 HP Johnson -- plus a 4X4 Pickup and a cab-over camper.

I dont do much High Altitude hiking due to  " Altitude Sickness " ..  

It takes me roughly half a week, before I feel somewhat normal.. Again it feels like a " BAD Hangover " !

However, I'm good for most of the " Mammoth Lakes Area " ..  

My largest " Striper " has been caught on bait ( Anchovies ) 20 + lbs.

I'm bound and determine to catch a few on plugs !

I was walking the lake on " Thursday " ( Pyramid, CA ) ,  and saw lots of " Striper Boils " throughout the day,  in the Marina / Boat Launch area.
The Stripers were chasing after " Shad ". You could see the Shad jumping out of the water, & the Striper Tails flapping on the surface.

Unfortunately, they were out of normal shore casting distance (150+ yards ).

I'm pretty proficient casting with my spinning gear, ..But I'm trying to get together my casting techniques, using my Bait Casting / Levelwind Reels.

I'm really impressed with the " Diawa Saltist STTL LW30HC ".. I'm going to get the smaller " Diawa STTLW20H-C ".

I can definitely relate.  I've fished the Pacific since my 20's.  I've been sick the last 5 times.  No vomiting, but miserable for awhile. Trying to figure out if I have an inner ear issue. I have a great little Boston Whaler that I may end up trading for a 15 someday.

But I gotta know, do you have a boot / fin combo that's comfy?  Mine cut into my foot and are painful after the first hour.

I have an old Hobie with the semi ridgid pontoons.

I've got a wide foot ( 9 1/2 WW ) and had to try on a few pairs of Divers hard sole Boot, with side zipper ( Sports Chalet ) that fit comfortably over my Chest Wader, with a Neoprene Stocking foot. I have to fight to get the Diver Boot on, as the Chest Wader Neoprene Sock rubber bottom, sticks & won't slip on easily.

The " Force Fins " are adjustable & comfortable, but are a pain to get on in the water.
I put them on, while on dry land & then " Duck Walk " backwards, carrying my loaded Float Tube, into the water about hip high, without tripping & falling

For all of you with motion sickness, LISTEN to Uncle Dom---the patch, the patch, the patch.   It works.  Diesel fumes can make me "feel" the ocean, BUT so can the smell of the galley.  The patch works!! 

That being said, I love any kind of fishing and used to fish lots of lakes anywhere near Fresno, Ca.
Been to Mammoth lakes,Shaver Lake, Huntington Lake and the Devil's Bathtub many times.  But if really bigger fish is your desire, you will probably have to fish a bigger pond.
