Hi  everyone,

We have been asked to design a rod for casting huge poppers, with the aim of subduing big GT and Dogtooth Tunas.

The blank isn't a big issue – we can soon design something appropriate – however, as we will be freighting the rod a couple of thousand miles I would like to get the ring design and spacing somewhere in the right ball park.

So, does anyone have the height and shaft angler for a Stella 30,000 and 20,000???  This will assist in determining the correct ring design.

Cheers from sunny Africa

Jeri,
You might look at the Mud Hole .com website. A wealth of rod building info. and components.Hope it helps.

If you go down a little, there is a section detailing the parallel foot on the new shimano SW reels, and a guideline issued by shimano recommending at least 37cm between the reel and the first guide.

Hi

Thanks for the info.

Mudhole is all fairly standard stuff, but a good starting point for most builds.

The first ring will certainly be more than 37cm, in fact more than double that.

I have managed to get the dimensions from another source – the spool height governs the size of the first ring and its placement, the angler then determines the spacing of the following guides.

The thing with this type of rod, is that they always want maximum distance, which is a trick to achieve with such stiff rods and huge drag settings. Ring placement becomes critical.

Thanks for your help.
