Hey Guys just a quick question.

I'm thinking of stripping some accuplates and getting them reanodized. I know that it only takes about a thousandth of an inch off. Just wondering if anyone has tried this and would it affect the way any of the parts fit or how the spool or frame fits. Thanks again.

Hi, did you ever figure this out? i came across a badly faded red 113H some years ago; couldnt pass up the price but the plates and frame need to be re-anodized. i think reel colors will do it. let me know how it turns out; I'm going to pursue this as rebuild. Are you changimg color?

Best,

John

I use alodine to patch up area where the original anodizing is gone.
The extra thickness is less than a flim of oil and will not affect any parts.

I haven't done it, however I have spoken to several people that have and even power coated them. As long as the place that does the work is good then it will be fine. I'm sending a batch of stuff In soon.

Note that powder coating is around 50-60 times thicker than anodizing!

Two things. When they reanodize something, it is my understanding that the old anodizing is first stripped off before the new is placed on the object, therefore there should be a net gain of basically zero. Powder coating is another ball game entirely. I first had a Sealine 600H anodized and didn't like the results because the frame and side plate were cast aluminum, not forged. Cast aluminum doesn't anodize well. I next had the side plates powder coated. Looked fantastic but I spent at least two days scraping the places where everything joined so the parts would go back together. It was like my side plates, etc had swollen.

I live in a pretty small place and have multiple places that anodize and powder coat. They don't really like small jobs but have thrown my stuff in with others and charged me little or nothing

Fathoms are cast aluminum and cast aluminum doesn't anodize well at all. The results can be yucky. Think Daiwa Sealine. Those reel are supposed to be black, no greenish gray.

Just want to get the gold parts redone. I noticed the difference in color though.

Anyone have any idea what Tom charges to re anodize a reel?
I visited his website, no pricing I could find.  I'm gonna call him next week but thought I'd ask here first.
