As promised....

The above rod a 9/0 New, Never used Senator rod was a gift from my pal, Sal... I feel both the rod and reel make this a very cool combo.
I'll post more stuff when I get time, but you've now seen my best first so it's all down hill from here. ;)
Enjoy,
Dom

What no picture of Big Red and Black Beauty together?   :-\  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Superhook

Dom,

That's as sweet and clean as the day it was made.

Wow Dom, your are darn good with that can of red spray paint. You even did the inside too  :o Very impressive. What color you gonna paint your next 9/0 ??? How bout sky blue, that would look good next to big red. Is that krylon or another brand  ;D lol

Merry Christmas buddy. Can't wait to see what you pull outta your sleeve next.

Penn Chronology

Dom,

It is an unbelievable find! Do you have any of the history of this reel?

Usually when Penn would make a One Off like this, it was done for a reason. Sometimes a well respected employee would be retiring of have some kind of special anniversary. The color formula does not look special but of course this color should not be used for this reel, so that makes this reel unique.

Thank you very much for posting this, if you can email me the photos, I will make a special folder for them and see if I can get some info about this reel. No promises but sometimes you ask the right person the right question and magic happens.

Thanks Again,

Mike C.

Hey Mike,
I purchased the reel from Ebay a few years ago and it came with nothing other than what's in the photos.  I'd love to find out some more about this reel... I figured it was just an "end of the week" reel that an employee made on his own time. I'll shoot the photos over tomorrow.
Glad to see you found it interesting and are willing to ask a few questions to the right people for me ;)
Thanks,
Dom

Very cool. That is a one of a kind Penn 9/0 with red sideplates. That reel is so nice I would be afraid to fish it. That baby would go in the man cave in a display case if I owned it. A reel museum piece for sure.

Dom, no need to send the photos, I was able to save the images to my computer from here, so I have them. I sent out an email to a special guy but he has not got back to me yet. I make no promises because sometimes these guys are so busy they sort of gloss over their emails but it can not hurt to ask. I will wait a few more weeks and then, if I still have no response, I will try again.

You could be right about this reel simply being an end of day reel, the result of a bored employee or an Office Party drunken dare. One never knows!!!

By the way, another member, ""Superhook"" has started a Thread titled, ""Coloured Penn Reels"", (yea, I know, those Aussies do not only talk funny, they also spell funny).......<:O)

I figure this Red 9/O also belonged there, so I posted it. I hope that is OK with you.

Mike,
Putting it in with the other colored reels ...it's where it belongs now.
This special guy must be one heck of a penn wiz if he knows something you don't about penn reels... Is Otto hanging out with Elvis in Vegas still?
Thanks for putting in the effort to try to get me some answers.
So, is it end of the week or end of the day reels? I've seen it written both ways but wasn't sure of the actual truth.
Thanks,
Dom

Most of the time I hear it said, "End of Day". So I guess that would be the more correct way to convey the meaning of having spare time at the shift end to be creative. Either way, we get the meaning..... :)
