Frame question

I have a frame that is missing the little stand underneath the pinion gear. The frame would still usable correct? I've seen some frames where the pinion sits inside the stand but others where it just rests on it. Is the purpose of this stand to support the pinion or is it more for reassembly purposes to keep the pinion from dropping out? Thanks guys.

What reel is this for Sean?

A Battle 4000. If my memory serves me correctly, the pinon gear on this model rests on the stand. I have another one downstairs that I can open up to double check. I can't imagine that it would matter that much for a small reel. Everything is being held in place above.

It's still usable. I've seen them broken off and it makes no difference.

Thanks Keith. That's what I thought but I wanted to check with the pros. I just put it back together and it feels normal to me.
