Gulf Shores, AL
Gulf State Park Pier
Sheepshead taken on live shrimp, weight nine pounds and was 23"

My new personal best Sheepshead, this big fat, runaway from Jenny Craig weighed in at 9#.
She used that weight to dive deep under the pier, and it was a near Easter Miracle that I got her turned & out.
I put her and four of her kin in our cooler today.

Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

I wonder why...I've gotten a few in the 15# range and very tasty

Hi Tim, yep, I know all about them Pacific variety, kelp bed dwelling, dog toothed, two toned Sheepheads.
I was born & raised in San Diego, man I miss fishing the kelp beds and the Islas Los Coronados.

Filleting is easy.
You simply have to either float a flexible knife over the ribs, or just go around them.

My family and I just ate her for dinner, she tasted great.

Yeah, I know I am Dom, living in a sportsmans paradise down here and I am grateful.
SoCal was pretty darned good fishing too.
