I noticed on my 650ss the rotor wobbles, can't tell by reeling but when stationary , thought because of the design that the bearing needed to be replace, not so, the bearing is fine, next thing could be the pinion having some wear since it's counting on the shaft to stay straight because the bearing as play in it . I solve the problem by installing a brass washer right behind the the pinion gear

So before I try the find a new pinion

Does your SS rotor wobbles too?

Thanks, Marc..

Hey Marc,

While waiting for the real SS experts to chime in I think the answer is a qualified yes. These older model Penns never seemed to have perfectly balanced rotors and (I believe) a tiny amount was common.

The issue would be large if the spool was rubbing on it's underside etc but I think a tiny bit is within "tolerance" for most of these.

I have 2 750ss reels with only a very little wobble I always considered normal

Thanks!! I'm not really surprised by it being a bit loose,  the pinion is not well supported compared to the older 700 series, my 710z as hardly any play in the rotor, the pinion on these are supported by the bearing, body of the reel and the shaft

Anyway the washer fixed the wobbling for now

Was just wondering if they all had this noticeable wobble

Thanks again
Marc..

Marcq,

There is a previous post on this subject somewhere in this spinning reel section. Try doing a search in this section on "wobble".

Thanks! Not sure if you were referring to this post but this is exactly the issue and I guess it's normal, mine had closes to 2mm
