A tutorial on the Mark 4 has been done, so this is a quick look at the modular type, drop in magnet cartridge of Shimano`s marvellous Mark 4 Mag.

I have owned a couple of other magged reels, but this is the most robust setup I have seen in an adjustable mag.

  Thanks for the breakdown on the Magnets. Don't have a Mag Mark 4 but have a Mag Mark 3----Sweet reel. Call it the Whisper Jet. I have several of these old Tritons of different sizes and styles and fish them regularly for Big Blue cats. Great reels with great gear ratio (5/1) and very fast retrieve rate (33"/34" per turn).

I share your enthusiasm for the old Shimanos. They are great reels. I have a Mark 1 and 2 and now the Mag4. I would like to get a Mark 3.
