Alan, I was reading your tutorial on a Penn 30 SW where you were recommending greasing the bolts and screws for the base plate and sharing your concerns for the greased bolts to eventually come lose.  It occurred to me that OMC gasket sealer would be a good choice for that application. It will stop water intrusion and corrosion, sets up stiff and will not harden. Way better than loctite for this.  Mechanics use it for marine repair to stop the galling that occurs when a stainless bolt is screwed into aluminum.  The rather stiff set up acts as a light "loctite", I have used it for years on prop nuts when the nylon wears out, my guess is that the base plates would stay tight.  I wouldn't use it on sideplate screws but it would still work, just a bit sticky & messy.  Just another option.

I sent you 3 reels for checkup before our long range in Nov.  Everything worked great, and we caught a lot of YFT 80-150lb, marlin, shark, and wahoo.  Candy had the biggest hoo on the trip.
