Quick way of taking mainline off to re-spool your reel

Wee trick shown to me years ago, some probably
know this one but for those that don't.

If you want to take old line of your fixed spool
or multiplier just get an electrical drill, a drill bit
and an empty spool that you might have lying around.

You might have to put in a screw or two just to hold it
in place and nice and easy (not fast lol) and you will
have an empty spool in no time.

Off course yes you can just reverse the line on to a spare
spool, but you know the reel, new kind of line etc.

I get a bolt that will fit through a spare spool and put 2 nuts on it, arrangement usually like this

Bolt head - washer - plastic spool - washer - nut - nut

You have to use 2 nuts stacked or the spinning will loosen the nuts off. This arrangement stops the spool spinning on the bolt.

Throw it in the chuck of your drill and give it heaps.

OR just take a piece of wood 2X2 drive a spike into the end it & cut the head off.  Wind off with drill motor. Everybody has been using drill motors for years, it's nothing new. Read some of the old posts on this subject. fishermanpaul do you think you are dealing with novices? I thought you left this site with your oil can.

But what do you do with the line now on the spare spool?

Great question, you can use it for backing on a bigger
spool (on your fixed spool reel) stick a bit of tape next
and reel on new line, great for fishing a club match
off the rocks. or pleasure fishing.

Some of those penns i bought hold a huge amount off .35 line
i am never going to see half of it let alone all of it so if it
suites your fishing, if a fish takes nearly 400 yards of
line it can have it, ive seen how far 200 yards is on a casting
court and it's a lot further than some might think, ps a lot further.

Anyway that's only one idea, all other uses bring them forward.

The fish don't mind

Ive plenty more pics of the fish caught as back up
if you want, plus trophies for shore fishing as well
as qualifying more than once for shore teams, open wins,
river trophies etc etc etc.

I am only passing on my experience to those that i might
help not those that can't, i hope the moderators see this
and don'r cancel or remove this post as it's taken my time
to write it, as said if you don't agree don't reply.

This post/thread is not about just you that does know but those
that don't and others with there ideas, if there are i might
use it also.

I also tie my own spinners (flying c), i make my own mackerel feathers,
tie shore traces, boat and shore (don't fish club boat matches anymore
secretary passed away but i did fish with that club (boat) for 8 years or so
and by god were they good, my pb spurdog is 13lb 8oz not bad for first trip
out, the list is endless, my point being this ain't about me, but if you or anyone
has a dig il just keep uploading pics of fish ive caught, then trophies, teams,
you will get board, and ive never used grease in bearings caught plenty of fish
though as i would say you all have, im still learning

The easiest and fastest way to take line off that will be discarded is the 2 funnel method. You can strip a 6/0 in a few seconds, unscrew the end nut, slide one funnel off, and dump the line in the recycle bin.

You can now but them online instead of making them.

I get empty bulk spectra spools from Jerry Brown and I wind old line on them until they are full.

Please, please, please, run a knife through the coils before binning it, that way the 100mm lengths will pass through any bird or animal that may ingest it for the next 10,000 years

Only a few weeks ago i saw a dead bird (while fishing for tope)
from a pier and i was shocked to see a dead bird wrapped around
in someones mess, light line about 100 yards plus.
