Found a good deal on a used penn 501 down in Santa Barbara so I had a friend pick it up for me. Eventually got the reel from my friend and was able to go through the reel with Alan last Sunday.

Yesterday, finally had the chance to fish with it on a friend's boat. We left Sanra Cruz harbor around 7 and drifted a couple live mackerel we caught over some rocky bottom for lingcod. Got to catch my first fish on the new (to me) reel. Wind picked up around 11 and we called it a day not too long after.

That's a handful of good eating fish.  Nice job.  That's a nice reel.  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Wow, you grabbed hold of a high-mojo reel there!  Good catch. Congrats on both.
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.

Good job fishboy, only the first of many with that reel...enjoy it!
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.
