I picked up this beaten up 160 on a whim. It was on the cheap and I've bought them like this before. It had a cracked handle plate, picture plate on the other side.

It was rougher than I expected. The pinion is frozen to the bake lite spool. The gears and sleeve are toast.
I can bring her back. I have a handle side with all internals.

I mainly bought this reel for the plate and spool. I ended up narrowing it. This is my second one with a beachmaster. It turned out nice. New stack, different handle, 29L-100 spool, clamp and hex head screws.

Took longer than I wanted, but I saved her.

If that uses the same spool as a Surfmaster, what is the appeal?

Really don't know anything about them.

Oh, good save!
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.

I just like these old reels Randy. I got it for 10 bucks.
Something an ordinary person would throw away.
It was locked up solid.

Nice work. Any Penn is worth ten bucks IMO. Love the old skool orange Bakelite knob; I try to use those when possible.
