Hi Everyone-
I've read the posts here about the SG, just wondering if there is any feedback on the Truth Reels SS star drag?  Any pros/cons between it and the SG?  FWIW, I'm trying to replace an AVET JX 2-speed/Calstar 40lb outfit that my 9yr old daughter dropped overboard from hooking a tuna on a recent 3 day.  Ugh, makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it...  Thanks in advance - Ernie

one that didn't get away!!

With all the Okuma hats why are you not looking at those? ;D

Sorry no feed back on the SG and SS as I have not fished those reels, only played with them at tackle stores. Truth formally Release makes fine products as far as I can tell and from feed back here on the left coast but for me and let me repeat just for me I never liked their reel handle knobs. I know others like them just fine and the reels seem to do what is advertised but until they come up with another handle knob design I will not buy one.

Thanks for the input.. for whatever reason I've always stuck with American made reels. I originally found this site looking for ways to build out my newells, man so happy with the tutorials and Bryans 5+1 drags. They work perfect for what type of fishing I normally do. Same with the avet tutorials.

I'll keep waiting on truth reels improvements, I appreciate the input. I'm pretty sure you helped me with my avet questions about drag too. Thanks!

Hi Ernie,

Been using a Release SG for the past 2 years - surf fishing and casting. What can I say, perfect machine that lives up fully to the specs advertised - which is rare these days. The drag is awesome, the build is robust, and the component schedule is top line.

The SS has been designed as a specific surf casting reel, as changing surf casters over to lever drag reels is too much of an uphill task. I have no doubts that it will do everything as advertised.

If you really can't get on with the handles, then they might just build you a special. That said, I love the original ergonomic design they did, but the new full metal balls are equally fine.

It is all a matter of choice and personal preference - they will never be able to please all the people with whatever design they come out with.

Cheers from sunny Africa,

Jeri
