Sometimes size matters....and sometimes not...yes, G-rated.

Like nearly any avid angler, I love the rod bending and the reel singing. And most of the time my piscatorial pursuits pay off with just such a tune.

However this time I was pursuing a smaller quarry in the form of a common Bluegill sunfish for using as a gyotaku fish printing subject.

So I removed my carp rig from the line and tied on a little peacock feathered fly to jig up a volunteer. Didn't take too long so after the capture and iki jime of the little guy, I tried a few more for C & R. When the fly hit the water's edge they would shoot up out of nowhere in anticipation of a quick bug meal. Only the fastest or first got it. Then I dipped it into some nearby water weeds and was ambushed by another member of the Sunfish family; a Pumpkinseed. Quite possibly one of our most colorful freshwater sunfishes around. I took a few cell pics and sent him on his way. Wish I could have captured the brilliance and iridescence of its colors better. It zoomed back to the weeds and my session had closure with the warm fuzzies of experiencing something other than bending rods and screaming reels.

Yes, sometimes size matters however most treasured gems and jewels are on the smaller end of the scale.
