I will never have to open the sink trap again....

While Christmas shopping for my wife in Bed, Bath and Beyond I came across this sink strainer - I think it was $15. I've been playing with reels for a few months now, and more than once I've dropped a small piece in the sink and down it went. This is my solution so that I'll never have to open the drain pipe and fish the part out of the trap. If this isn't in the right place I hope one of the mods will move it - but it is a tool, of sorts.... and yes, that is a Sham-Wow, and they are pretty amazing in the shop.

With people like you I will never make money to buy more parts. Your killing my business.

I have not failed.  I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

That is funny Mike. ;D
I never use the sink. Its not that I am not allowed. I just choose not to.
Its either Simple green, brake cleaner or the sorts in the garage.
Sid,
Stay out of the sink. ;)

Guys, you're raining on my parade. This is a great solution for me! (I did have a screw bounce out of the screen and go down the drain earlier today - it's not foolproof, but it adds to my peace of mind}. I had to order a new sleeve pin from PennParts the other day because it made it's way through the trap and was lost for good.

Mike, you sell Penn parts? Where? How?

I'm a retired Plumber that sometimes takes on a side job. I buy most parts from MysticParts. If I have something that you needed it's yours.

I have been using a small strainer that fits perfectly over my sink drain, and also on top of wide mouth mason jars.  Also, I try to keep a few extra of each of the common smaller parts (such as c-clips, tiny springs, screws, washers/shims, and pins) in stock.

Now I get it, Mike. It's the plumbing angle, not the parts angle.... I'm guessing most folks reading this can get into a sink trap... just sayin'. I snaked out a cleanout a week ago after the kitchen sink backed up. I would understand a plumber not wanting me to know how to do that.... I'm frugal that way. 8)

I use the same type of strainer that goes over the sink. I put my parts that I want to scrub, mainly frames and larger pieces that don't go in the Ultrasonic cleaner in the wire basket and run warm water over the parts. Then take a few brushes and soak them in a Simple Green jar, then start scrubbing with Simple Green and warm running water. Then the plastic pieces that went in the Ultra Sonic Cleaner go toward the sink and get one last hit with the brush and a warm freshwater rinse. The basket works great.
