laast years  report
i was  only  able  to  go on  one  trip.  it  coulds  haVE BEEN  THE  BEST ONE  YET  BUT I  SCREWED  IT  UP  ROYALLY
hit the  boat  about  530am. got  bunk  got right  fishing  position  and  settled  in  for
6

got  to  hudson  canyon and looked  around a little  bit  not  much  sign.  did some  pot hopping  for  mahi. we three  got  20+   other  two  caught  mostly  chickrn  mahi  as  usual  i  went deep  like  always  got 5  gaffer mahi  to  20 lbs. the bigger  fish  are down  deep  maybe 100-200 ft id rathern  catch the  big ones

at  dusk  swet  up  in  canyon  for  chunking  i  think  we  started  in  about  500 feet.a slow  slow  night  maybe a  couple  yellow fins  but  not  many.  fished  all  night  it gets so  boring  with  no  bites. capt  finally  pulls  anchor  and  we  drift  out into  the  deep   one  here  one  there  but  nothing  to  write  home  about

come  about  7 am  everyone  has  had  enough cap say ok  time to  go  pull  then  and  we are  aout of  here  withing a  couple  minutes  4  or  5  fish on  im  cranking  my  baiotb  ion  when boom  almost  lost  rod  overboard  to  a  strike. now  i  use  an accurate  atd50w reel  o0n a  sturdy  calstar  blank. that fish  says  in  leaving  and  he  does   but  i  got  like 500  yards  of 130 cortland  hollow  braid on the reel  and  he keeps  leaving  and  keeps leaving.  i  got Into  panic  mode (BAD) DRAG MOVED  ALL  THE WAY TO  MAX

IT  DOESNT  HELP  HES  STILL PEELING  OFF  LINE  LIKE  MAD. APPLY  PRESSURE  TO  SIDE  OF  SPOOL  FOR  EVEN MORE  DRAG . DOESNT  DO  ANY  GOOD  HES STILL LEAVING  AND  THEN  BANG  AND  LIMP LINE.  BROKE  80  LB LEADER
NOW  IVE  CAUGHT  A  FEW  BIG  FISH  LONG  RANGE  SAN  DIEGO NEVER  HAD  A  256LB  YFT PULL  AS  HARD  AS  THE  GUY  THAT  LEFT  ME .  THE  CONSENSUS  WAS  A  BIG  SWORD  FISH  2-3-4-500 LBS
WOUND  LINE  BACK IN  HAD  COUPLE BEERS  AND  HIT THE BUNK  FOR BOAT RIDE  HOME.  TOTAL  20+MAHI  NO TUNA  NO SWORD  FOR  THREE  GUYS  BETWEEN  WEATHER  AND HOSPITAL  VISITS  THAT  WAS  ONLY TRIP I MANAGED  TO  MAKE

GOT  6  TRIPS  PLANNED  FOR  THIS  FALL  PLANNING  ON  EXPERIMENTING  WITH  NEW  METHOD  IF  IT  WORKS   ILL  GET  A  LOT  MORE  FISH   IF IT  DOESNT  WORK   PROBAbLY  zilch. THATS  FISHING

Thanks for posting Mr. Bill.  One of the pleasures of being old is you get to read 11 pages of posts before you notice this thread started years ago, lol.

You catch more fish in one trip than I have caught in five.  I want to be like you when I grow up.
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.
