So I purchased this setup. Came with the reel and a Shimano Teramar rod. Very nice setup. I was doing research and noticed Alan mentions that these reels have bad water intrusion. So regardless I took apart the reel as I've learned to service any reel that's in my possession. Clearly, this reel was very well taken care of internally. It had no issues whatsoever.

So when I worked on this reel, there was VERY VERY little free spool. So I cleaned the bearings, removed the shields, greased with corrosion X, and installed them without shields.  I also altered the configuration of the bellvilles from a ()() to a (()). I already knew that the "stock" pressure now in free spool mode would be more because of the new belville configuration. My thoughts were that the free spool would be the same. After I assembled everything together, I got a significant increase in free spool CONSIDERING I increased the drag performance at the same time. Very happy how it turned out. here is a before and after video.

Thanks Alan for your tutorials.!!

In this second picture above shows the bearings greased up with corrosion X and installed without shields..
