Is there a way to tell whether or not a reel is made with German silver?

If it is not plated, the color of German Silver is unmistakable.







All of these reels are high quality non-plated German Silver. German Silver accepts chrome plating very well, so many early reels were plated. The Commander Ross 14/O in this thread was originally Chrome plated.

Beautiful job on that restoration, Ray.  You had a rough diamond and turned it into a diamond in the rough.  First class job on a first class reel manufacturer.
