A friend of mine asked for a recommendation for a new star drag reel in about the 30lb class.  I have a couple Daiwa Saltiga 30 and 40 star drag reels that are my go to reels.  The problem is that Daiwa no longer makes the Saltiga with a star drag.  Can anyone recommend a star drag reel that is well constructed and will hold up to heavy offshore use. (Construction and performance are more important then cost.)

Trinidad 16a and 20a are the Shimano equivalents to the Saltiga 30 & 40.

With so many great metal reels available, why a plastic one?

I believe Daiwa reintroduced the Saltiga star drag.

THey did but they're not the same reels.  So far, the ones release are little jigging reels.

Because when it comes down to it, dollar for dollar, a graphite reel is hard to beat for value.  ;D

Thanks for all the replies.  Lots to research and to think about.  Cost is not really a consideration.  I thought I had mentioned that but guess I didn't.  I haven't seen the Pro Gear reels.  I will have to take a look at them.

BTW:  I have one of the new Saltiga's 15H's.  Great little reel but I guess I'm old school and can't get used to the small size.  Sure wish they would bring back the Saltigas in the 30 & 40 sizes.

If you are referring to the 20/40, It has a graphite frame but inside is stronger than any reel this size that I have seen.
Put a carbontex drag in it and it will last a lifetime.
I must congratulate Pro Gear on their new  reels being under 6:1 gear ratio. A rare bird these days. Looks like a great reel.
