Here are a couple pics of a 3/0 I recently acquired from an AT member. Anybody care to have a shot at dating this one ?? These 2 pics should help.

So, can anyone knowledgeable share how it was dated?

Superhook

John, you've got me pegged...elbows out and barging in. ......again .

The foot is stamped 400 yards which was a carryover from the not made anymore Deluxe#66 . The large counterweighted handle . No part numbers .

I love the appearance of the early handles and stars...the sharper shoulders...and they are a bit thicker too. Cool reel! 8)

A 3/0 first year.
That would be 1942. This one breaks the rule that the yardage on the foot was stopped in '38 (or was that '39?). Nice find.

You are correct Sid, it is a 1942 3/0. The stamped yardage on the 3/0 seat is likely leftover parts from the Long Beach Deluxe which was discontinued in 1941.

The yardage stamped under the seat can be found up thru 1941 on many models.

Here is 1941 long beach 60 with the yardage stamp. The 1942 LB no longer needed the yardage stamp because the model number was now in the logo in 1942

Mo -  I agree! The handles are really neat looking with the sharp corners...I don't know how ergonomic it was, but hey, it looked good  :D

Ted - Great find, somehow you keep doing it!
