The wife wanted to change up our 5 week vacation this past winter.  She had in mind to break up the trip to see friends in FL , Belize (on her long time bucket list) and our usual time in Costa Rica to see friends.  So I am thinking, 3 places of fishing, okay I'm all for that.  Well it was a very nice trip, but the weather wasn't very cooperative.  I'm gonna blame El Nino.  We were always waiting out the weather for the fish.  It was either raining, windy or cold with a few windows of opportunity to catch some fish.  We managed to catch some fish and was happy about that.  We fished with guides and I fished solo from shore at each place.  While waiting out the weather my wife kept busy sight seeing , which kept me from being too antsy.

These pics are from Guanacaste, Costa Rica using a reel put together from all the parts that were available on A.T.  This JigMaster 500 (and Tom's side plates), was put together for my very good friend who lives there.  My friend gave me the honor to fish it first.  The reel worked just fine. Thanks everyone for making and offering all of the hotrod parts available and Scott's B&T for any of the remaining original parts.

We squeeze in two trips in two weeks. With one starting very calm, but turned very windy rather fast. So we headed in and planned other activities.
With a no show on the sardines, the shore fishing was slow. One jack and little snapper off the rocks. The snapper got it's freedom, but jack was given to a local. He gave me a smile and a big thank you.

My friend spooling it for the first time. This one not for clients. Me with his nephew (his mate).

We also caught a lot of small snapper and groupers which released.

2 Conejo and Ardilla
Rabbit or tile and Squirrlefish. The Conejo made dinner and the Ardilla swam free along with the many small grouper and snapper. So not like usual, but still catching. Forgot to mention nothing on the troll. Also not many locals hand lining this year maybe El Nino.  Jack was on a Gotcha .

Dominick

Big or small a fish is a fish.  Thanks for the report.  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Alto Mare

I love seeing our custom reels in action... very nice.
I'm with Dominick, big or small it's still a fish.
Thanks for sharing.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Great report!
I love seeing the different locales and species of fish. It really is cool to see hard work paying off with smiles and fish in the box!

Cool beans....I have tried to always take a rod and reel with me on business trips....mostly to say I fished while doing work.....any size fish is a fish caught...lately I've been targeting bluegill and river perch....but at least I'm fishing....thanks for the report....Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!
