I cleaned and upgraded this Chronarch 100A.  While testing the reel a noise showed up. I started trying to find the issue. Looking at the brake collar side of the spool. One of the small pins that hold the red brake collar is sliding up while casting. Does anyone here have any experience fixing this problem. Thanks

This is a common issue with these older reels. If you look closely, you will find that the case will have a crack where the pin fits thru the slot. This expands during a cast and allows the pin to move out, and contact the brake case.

There are 2 options. One is to remove the pin entirely, and use the brakes you want, usually only 2, and it will work fine. Use the brakes opposite each other for "on", as I find this balances the spool during casting.

Option 2 is to remove the internal ring, and superglue the case. You need to be accurate in the placement of the glue, and clean any excess off. When replacing the internal ring, glue that back in too.

Replacement brake rings are like hens teeth, so nearly impossible to find.

Great reels.

Cheers,

Terry.
Never was so much owed by so many to so few.
