Anyone know a good house hold chemical to remove permanent marker? I bought four 9500SS spools off a guy and he labeled the spools with writing. I feel like I can get it off if I find the right product.

Here are some pics.

Anyone know what type of line that looks like. The guy who sold them to me said it was Jerry Brown. Does JB come in this color?

What, like Jiffy Marker? Anything alcoholic or oily... WD-40, rubbing alcohol, vodka, cooking oil, gasoline, an insistent thumb... anything.

I tried WD-40 and a toothbrush. It didn't appear to do much.

I have no idea what he used..... Aside from the marker they all look and feel close to new. I couldn't pass them up. Came with extra spools and two rods.

People do strange stuff to fishing reels sometimes..... At least he didn't carve his initials into the side. That drives me crazy.

IP alcohol always works best for me.            Rudy

I'm going to start off with the rubbing alcohol because I already have some. If that doesn't work, I'll see if I have some acetone.

I'm thinking he may have used a paint pen.

don't think they sell MEK any more... lacquer thinner will do it

If this isn't too far off topic, I got permanent marker out of a cork grip by scrubbing it with toothpaste on my fingertip.  It wasn't inspiration on my part, but something uncovered in a Google search, and worked amazingly well.

X3... but use caution (a Q-tip would be good). Don't get it on the spool's lb-test label, that's pretty intense stuff and will melt it right off.  :)
