I've mentioned this in a few other threads, but in case some missed it, here is how to narrow a 3/0.

First off, a 3/0 and 2/0 are exact same sideplates and gears, so it's fairly common knowledge that a 3/0 can be narrowed into a 2/0 by using 2/0 spool, stand, and posts. IMO we were still missing an in between size. Kinda like jigmaster 99, not too wide and still decent line capacity.

Along comes the 2.5/0 senator. Here's what I did.

I used a 99 seat and bars and a 65 spool. I know the seat isn't easy to locate, but somehow the Ohana has knack of locating tough items to find. Leftover parts are 3/0 bars, seat and spool. My next venture will be to build this very reel using 4 separate penn reels and end up with only 2 frame posts leftover. stay tuned, it's gonna get even crazier.

1st pic is 3/0 and parts needed for narrowing to "99" width, the mid size senator, or same width as a 112H, but the black version

2nd pic both reels are 2.5/0

I caught my first White Sea Bass on a 112h 3/0 with 30# mono. As I recall, it isn't too wide stock. Making it narrower sounds good to me!

Nice! My first Frankenreel fifteen years ago was the opposite...I had extra 112 spool and blew out a 65 to wide with posts and s 200 stand as I recall
