How do you clean handle paddles?

Shimano and Abu handle paddles always seem to be sticky and I have yet found anything that cleans them to my satisfaction. Any suggestions?

Hi Larry --

I just soak mine overnight in warm water with Dawn dish soap --

Rinse with fresh water really well --

Dry with air --

Spray with Black Magic rubber restorer -- wipe dry after a few minutes of soaking in -- drop of oil on the paddle shafts -- like new...

This has been used for a few decades now -- for automotive rubber, vinyl, etc..

This is used when preparing cars for show -- dash, armrests, door panels.  Also for the black moldings around windshields, bumpers, etc.. -- turns everything back to its original new condition -- with no slippery after film.

ArmourAll works also -- but not nearly as good as Black Magic.

Carried at Auto Parts stores, Amazon, Wal-Mart, etc.  Not very expensive.

Best,

Fred

actually, that "gummy" may be permanent -- I'm pretty sure there's an issue w/ degradation of the material (Septon?) of some soft-grip paddles caused by sunscreen or insect repellent

if Fred's advice doesn't work, just get some paddle covers

Thanks Fred. Have pretty much done everything you said but have not tried a rubber "restorer". I've got them hospital clean but could never get rid of that stickiness. I think once they start to degrade from sun screen and such, that's it.
I'll give the restorer a go.
Thanks all.

Sometimes the restorer works and sometimes it will not -- if allowed to go too far into degrading.

Sort of like rubber worms in the tackle box.

Those paddle covers work really well, so does a new crank.

I have a friend who is using slip-on knob covers on all of his ultralite spinners. -- they sure look and feel good.

Haven't tried them yet -- but I may pick up a few batches for the shop.

And if you get the camouflage pattern -- the fish will not be able to see you.

Best,

Fred
