Dhu Fishing Western Australia

The following 2 photos at Cervantes Western Australia, 186 cm dhu fish about 12 kilo or 25lbs and 180 cm dhu fish, they have black stripes down their body when you first catch them but the stripes fade. Also the fish on top in the buggy has a very long top fin with a whisker at the end which indicates it is a male fish. If it was square like the bottom fin it would be a female, cheers Don

Solid fish Don, those WA Dhu look like they would put up a decent fight. Thanks for giving us a look at them.

Yes thanks Mike, they really pull hard if there hooked in shallow water, some people get them of the beach in September & early October, I said to a rock lobster Pro fisher, that they maybe spawning that time of the year, that's maybe why there is close to shore, he said maybe, but he thought that they follow the rock lobster in, the dhuies love them, the rock lobster ( gray fish ) come in near shore to shed there shell, they then berry them selves, in the sand till there shell hardens, then they move out to sea, the rock lobster fishers follow them out to sea with there pots, the rock lobster move about 2 to3 kilometres per Day, @ that time of the year the climate is getting warmer, so the dhuies are happy to follow them into deeper water as the water is cooler out there, we have a closed season on Dhu fish & other Demersible fish when there supposed to be spawning from October 15 to December 16, however I have caught them full of rowe, in January, when you catch Dhuies in deep water they turn it on for a shorter time, as you bring them out of the deeper water, I am talking over 25M, hope this helps, cheers Don, please check my post in the rod section thanks.

Yes Dan, the Western Australian Dhu fish are good eating, they have a white flesh, fillets are selling in Perth, the capital of WA for AU $ 85.00 / Kilo, you can view them in the Australian fish speices book, I think you have that book Dan. cheers Don.

Yes thanks Steve, we have caught a few recently, as I sais Cervantee, is about 150 kms north of Perth, also caught 8 or 9 @ had to release half of them, over quota, Geraldton, about 300 miles North of Perth we also live, not far from Bunbury, Mandurah & the Dawsville cut, the Dhuies are caught from Albany on the South coast, almost to Sharks Bay, the heaviest they get to is near 23 Kgs, thanks again & cheers Don.
