Went out with a guide buddy who I service reels for and another friend and had some decent late summer chinook fun. The fishing slowed a couple of weeks ago but has picker right up again with some very decent fishing. We had to work for a while for these but got most in a hour long bite and some good grade. Sizes were: 22, 24, 27, 27 and 29 lbs.

Cheers:

Nice Chinooks...or Kings as I call'em. Southeast Alaska just got their King fishery closed for Two months.

Supposedly due to low harvest numbers.

My buds up there are scratching their noggins trying to figure out that logic while they have been catching big Kings right through August.

We lost half our season this year due to an early closure for the same reason, and just 40 minutes up the coast it's still open and folks have been slaying them.  Lots of good grade fish too.  I don't get it?

Nice fish,  good fighting,  great eating.    thanks for the pictures.   :-*  We got hit recently with an emergency closure for yhe rest of the year.    oh, well?    watch out big late run coho,s! ;)

Nice feeder kings, any coho around?
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Great catch and one of my favorites on my plate for dinner.

The chinook fishing was good and is staying good right now (some years they dry up in Aug) this year but the pinks and coho have been slow. We had a good shot of coho in July but since then it has been slow and spotty with just the odd one around but the odd big coho is showing now but nothing like a "normal year".

None of the rivers in my part of SE Alaska made their escapement goals so closing the king season was a good idea. Around Juneau, you could keep kings for only a few weeks when ADF&G was confident that the vast majority of the fish that would be caught were from hatcheries. The wild runs are in dire shape and may never recover.

Nice fish Todd. Sounds like you had a great bite on the kings in a short time. I love those kind of mornings.
