Bearing Packer question

When using Alan's luxurious bearing packer, is it still necessary to clean out the old grease first, or does the packer take care of that when it pushes the new grease through?

The packer pushes out old grease while pushing in new grease.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D
