Hello all, I was under the assumption that the metal anti reverse post was replaced with a plastic one that the pawl is mounted to, now I have two 2052DA's and can see that they are indeed metal, the reference is to the spool bushing being plastic... Got it! One of my new DA's has a plastic spool bushing and the other is metal, had any of the DA's come with a metal bushing or had someone changed it?

Jack, are you talking about the drag click gear and bushing where the spool resides on the main shaft? If so, those with plastic there are OEM. Some came with metal there and and some with plastic. If the plastic cracks it can't be replaced but it can be repaired as shown here.

Yes Tommy that's the bushing in question, I am going to try a repaid to the plastic bushing in place using cyanoacrylate adhesive (crazy glue) and colloidal silica filler. I have used this method before to repair spools from two of my Abu 154's which were notorious for spools splitting in half, years later these repairs have held up well.

I do something similar but using super glue and baking soda.

Good luck! You both have way more faith in Super Glues than I do. I've seen way too many failures over the years, so I would never use on something that would get a large amount of stress.

I do, though, prefer Crazy Glue over Super Glue. In the   times that I have used them it seems like Crazy Glue holds a stronger bond longer than Super Glue. Lately I've leaned towards the Gorilla brand because it seems to last longer in the bottle.

Yes, I would cut it below any cracked area and rebuild it with JB Weld. I want to be confident that the damaged area isn't going to break apart while I'm out fishing. I don't want that weak spot to always be in the back of my mind.

It's really a fairly simple fix if you have basic craftsman skills, patience and some general tools around your work bench. It's a little tedious and waiting for the JB Weld to fully set takes some time, but just knowing that the repair will probably last as long as long as the rest of the reel sure eases the mind.

Hey Tommy, I will try your repair when I have time but for now I was able to find a main shaft from an EE, all metal as you know, I'll repair the plastic bushing and keep that main shaft as a spare. Thanks for your words of wisdom.  Jack
