I just bought a pair of these.

Plan was to polish the heck out of the spool tension shims and also the ends of the spindle in order to reduce co-efficient of friction and help then reel run longer and smoother.

Turns out said shims are made from fiber and not brass. Spoke to shimano only to be told its for weight saving ( the bloke didn't have a Scooby doo (clue)!

Turns out finding brass replacements is a difficult chore.

Personal thoughts are that folk incorrectly use excessive spool tension to brake their reels instead of relying on designed braking designs. Fiber is less likely to 'dimple' and be damaged.

Honest answers please..............

Am I being over critical in my thoughts or will these daft fiber things sow a reel down that much compared to brass?

Deja vu:
I have used the scrap disks punched out of carbontex washers to replace brass ones that have corroded away.
Specialist Daiwa reel service, including Magseal, MQ series body plates, and every other "improvement" that Daiwa Marketing (sorry... I meant Engineering) Dept comes up with!

I suppose carbontex would contain graphite. Graphite being a good lubricant itself. I used to use graphite powder on piston seals on weihrauch piston air rifles. That or  Moly paste.
