Identifying repeat reels

Hey guys so when I work on a reel I fill out a form for my personal records starting what was done and any thoughts or comments along with a date and customer I'd number I assign them. I also assign a reel I'd number so I can locate info quickly for work I have done. My question is this. If I have a customer with multiple of the same reel how can I differentiate which reel was which when I work on them again? Someone mentioned putting a sticker inside but I don't know about that idea. Thoughts?

I'm good with invoicing. I use square and that works pretty well. But say I work on 2 sealine 27h reels and they are identical. I give them both a unique I'd number and then in 6 months the customer brings them in for maintenance how do I know which number was for which reel?

Pick a out of the way spot and put an identifier mark.  I use a fine tip sharpie on the top side of the bridge or inside the side plate.  It can be  as simple as 3 small dots arrainged in a specific order.  Once greased over they are nearly invisible.

Jewelers use a tiny mark called a scratch mark visible under a lobe.

I kinda like the dot identifiers idea I might try that.

You can make a number on the inside of the side plate in the grease with your finger.
That is how I do my own, another trick from Obi Wan Pennobi.

Cal Sheets Of Cal's2speeds puts a small sticker inside the sideplate with hand written number on it with date. The writing looks to be done with a fine point Sharpie. I have seen his stickers in reels what were done 10 years or longer ago.

Of course he does 2 speeding, blue printing, lightening frame/spools and other tweaks so I'm sure if he gets a reel back in that he has worked on it would be nice to know exactly what was done. Even if the reel was resold to someone else or other things were done at a later date that service number should keep track of that reel.

The few I have done work on where I find those stickers I leave them in the reel

Ok lets think large here, say the reel your working on is 00000001 from your own sticker. The next time you see 00000001 in your shop you should know from the records you keep what has been done to it...no matter who owns that reel. Add a date in and you can narrow down when the reel was worked on and you don't have keep a running tad from day one.
