This is a known issue with these reels. They have to go back to penn. 

if its a known problem, do you know if there any kind of Recall or warranty for this problem?

This is covered under the warranty, but has to go back to Penn in Philadelphia, no DIY available.

penn has been great about taking care of this. it's certainly not every reel, but it does happen.
