Switch plastic to metal

I was wondering if it is possible to switch the gear plate assembly thats in an abu with the plastic parts to an older style plate assembly with all metal parts including a dog system. I have scoured the internet and didn't find any info if this is possible. My goal is to modernize the solid vintage system with bearings and stainless steel gears.
