Penn 712 line hitting the rotor cup

Wow, maybe that is what the peculiar silver collar is for.

Thanks for the input as well everyone. I've got a few of these reels now, a future project will be to take a fine file and make that relief a bit deeper. It'll mean direct access under the spool when in the highest position, but these are inshore boat reels so I won't have to worry about sand getting in there. Will throw up a few photos when I get around to it.

When they reintroduced the 704/706z they re-speced the capacities greater.
Did the new guard just say,....yeah that looks right.... and not consult with the old guard designers or actually test?

I have the same issue with an ABU Cardinal 4,...btw.

I have 712Z that I never use to notice the problem ,look at the rotor there is a round cut off so it seem Penn know the problem . May need to cut it deeper to get line come out without touch the rotor
