How to tell type of metal a main gear is made of

That's great, when I got the reel in the mail I thought it had a plastic spool due to the curved shape.  Wasn't till I got it off and looked on at the inside of spool til I realized it was aluminum and then saw the "CN" in the casting.  Sweet, steel main gear, aluminum spool!
