Hi Everyone,

i've been tuning an older 5000. I decided to put bearings in it, and bought 3x10x4 sized bearings per the Boca Bearing website. However upon trying to put the reel together I found the spool shaft was too large. .123 in, or 3.12mm. Am I missing something here? It seems like the next bearing that people say is for the 5000 would be 4x10x4, which to me seems way to large then.

Does anyone know the actual size, or can tell me what's going on?

Thanks!

Since you seem to have a micometer or caliper, the safe thing to do is measure the old bearings and replace with bearings of the same size.

4x10x4mm for newer ambassaduers. I got them from smooth drag
Do what you can with that you have where you are

Some of the older Ambassadeurs used a shaft size of 1/8" which equals 3.175 mm. Don't know if the D models were among them. I had a chat with the guy from Boca Bearings about this several years ago. I think maybe they then started to sell such bearings. Dunno for sure.

Check your measurements and go from there.

My 5000D doesn't have bearings, it has brass bushings. I'd think they could be swapped for bearings pretty easily though.
