Sorry I missed your birthday, pal.
Still have your picture on my fridge so we get to talk often but miss you telling me, "You almost had it, you just needed to..."
D said it, LEGENDARY status for Sal is spot on.
Miss you and many of our great members... Ray, Brian, George, I sure hope you're fishing beside our pal, Sal.
My best,
Dom

10 or so years ago Sal sent me a YTS kit for free because I mentioned I wanted to build one for a panguero friend in Baja.  That YTS was a big deal to Joaquin and has since caught many thousands of yellowtail and tuna (single ar dog, sorry Sal) . I am quite grateful  I had the chance to know the bit of Sal he shared with me, his patience, his knowledge, his generosity, his wisdom.  Thank you Sal.

4 years now, Crew.... I had a texting session with Cathy (Sal's wife 2 days ago) and she was very happy to hear that Sal was not forgotten.  I told her that he is mentioned often and in good standing, missed by all that knew him.
I know I miss that guy a bunch...
We know you're up there with our other angels keeping the rails warm for the rest of us.
Rest easy my Pal Sal,
Dom

Thanks Dom - 'tis nice to reflect again.
Always missed, never forgotten.
Hard to believe it's been four years though.
Hope you're keeping well.
All the best, Justin

Amen.
I think about Sal every time I hold a reel.
The man taught me everything.
Pay it Forward.
I miss you Buddy,

I looked at reels Sal had his specific mark on this morning- 501 with green spool he traded me, sporting his custom green / orange knob that showed up one day, and the narrowed 200 I built with 29L-100 spool Sal gave me at his house when they were unobtanium. I'm packing now for OBX in the morning, and Imma chuck a Magpower just for him.

Salut, my friend. You are sorely missed.

I met Sal VIA ebay back in 2009. He bought some new old stock Penn handles from me, that i had inherited from my dad, and I offered to sell him more handles privately. After many private messages, he directed me to Alan's website. I eventually joined the ohana, but for the most part never had anything to post. I'd never taken a reel apart. I'd fish a 113h for 3-4 seasons, then toss it in the trash and buy another from eBay. I never told this to Sal, or anyone else, because I was embarassed about my ignorance. I kept reading Sal's posts about Penns, and finally got the courage to dive into a 113h, and with Sals input, I was successful at reassembling the 113h. He planted the seed in me that grew into a huge passion for servicing my Penn reels, and inventing new custom components for the 113h. 100% of the credit goes to Sal. Im forever grateful to have had him as my mentor and friend. His flame burns bright within me and several others he inspired thru the years. I often think about him and several others that were a very inspirational part of the ohana. I enjoy reading their posts, and no doubt those posts still inspire people to this day and will continue to inspire and teach people how to service and upgrade their reels, and also those who want to expand their knowledge. Its all right here for all to see and learn.

Thank you to Sal Ciarlante, Bryan Young, Keith Rawson, Ray Hodges, Brian Purrone, Rudy Weber, and several others who have done so much for so many people, without asking anything in return.

See you all someday at the pearly gates !!
