Before I joined Alan's site back in '13, I had some contact with Sal.

I was selling on eBay back around '03-'05.  I put up a lot of new 16/0 colored cranks, harnesses, and larger Penn parts.  Some Italian gentleman from Pennsylvania was outbidding everyone else.  Bought around 40 pieces from me.

When I joined Alan's site about 13 years ago, he remembered me, and we became close friends.  Traded and gave each other hundreds of parts and reels.

One day he asked me about DAM Quick reels, since I was always promoting them.  Sent him a couple.  He examined them and considered them to be of top quality.  He then went about buying around 70-80 on eBay.

He is a solid gentleman, and a good mentor to all of us AT'rs.

Miss our conversations.  I have some of the cranks he made, and will be installing them on some of Tom's & Ted's custom Penns.

With Sal, it was always a 2-way street, he gave as much or more than he received.

We need to be aware of all of our members.  Each have special talents and skills.  And this group is Ohana (family).

I miss my pal, Sal.  Thankfully I can come here to see the old days of AT.  He taught me and so many, so much.  I stay in touch with Cathy and the family and will let them know you guys are still thinking of one of the greats, Sal!
PS- Sal, put Ted and I together many years ago knowing Ted could teach me a thing or two about collecting and then some. He was right on as usual!
RIP Sal and the boys above.
Best,
Dom

What a blessing, though, that life put us all together for a while.
He set a high bar and inspired all those who knew him to do so too.
Those few years were a privilege.
Dom nailed it: "Thankfully I can come here to see the old days of AT..."
Best wishes lads - 'tis a pleasure to know yas.
Cheers, Justin

Thanks Justin, and thank you Sal...

It can't be too difficult - a lot of people do it.

Quote from: thorhammer on October 10, 2024, 10:27:55 PMI looked at reels Sal had his specific mark on this morning- 501 with green spool he traded me, sporting his custom green / orange knob that showed up one day, and the narrowed 200 I built with 29L-100 spool Sal gave me at his house when they were unobtanium. I'm packing now for OBX in the morning, and Imma chuck a Magpower just for him.

Salut, my friend. You are sorely missed.

Wow. The time goes by. Here I am back at OBX exactly the same week as a year ago. And that 980 Magpower is with me.

RIP, my friend. I just returned from dinner at Basnight's, where there are a hundred or so vintage surf combos up on the walls. They all need an AT cleaning. Many need to be put on the rods the correct way; i.e., not left-handed. I may have to go have a talk with them.
