Daiwa Luna IAR bearing

Just serviced some Daiwa Lunas, cleaned and oiled the IAR bearings with rocket fuel.  I got a feedback from the customer the other day, saying that the bearing
is not working properly around 32 Fahrenheit.

Could anyone tell where to get some IAR bearings for the Luna, that will work in cold weather.  Or any other suggestions what to do?

That would help, maybe something like the CorrosionX you are using.  My customers are really pigs, with their
reels, so didn't dare to use a lighter oil than yellow rocket fuel.  Also the climate here is often humid and wet.

Unfortunately I will never get my hands on a bottle of CorrosionX, but I was wondering if I could use something like Peenzoil's Fogging oil?, I can by that at the local marine store.

yeah, corrosion x is what i use.  these bearings are notoriously unreliable.  the lube you used probably had nothing to do with the bearing failure.

Would be nice if it was possible to add a backup IAR to the the Luna, the Luna really needs that IMO. Funny,,, the Millionaire classic has it, considering it is Daiwas "low end" bait caster.

I don't have them as the reels are out of the house by now. But I will probably see them again next year.  But the best thing Shelby could do is calling Shimano or Daiwa, or even Koyo and ask them for the exact measurements( but I would not present myself as IZUTAMI Bearing company).

you know, morton, i re-read your post.  if you pack the AR bearing with grease, the rollers in the bearing might slip because the grease does not allow the rollers to seat properly.  it's possible also that if you use a lubricant that is too slick (like that teflon product, xtreme reel +), the AR bearing rollers might slip even though they ARE seated properly.  i'm wondering if the rocket fuel you used was too slick as well.  corrosion x is sort of in the middle, plus it has a track record of successful use in all of accurate reels. 

basically, i don't know for sure why they failed.  i'm betting it has something to do with the guys that were using the reels.  if you can, get those reels back and check them out.  i'm curious to know if it was the lube you used, or if the guys just leaning on these reels too hard.

Could the iar sleeve be part of the failure? Abu sleeves, in reels experiancing abnormal and abusive ownership, will go dark grey in the center, and show signs of needle impressions in the sleeve.

Maybe the Luna's sleeves are doing the same thing.

I admit that sometimes I pack IAR bearings with a small amount of light grease, but only if they are going to be used in a hot climate. In this case I knew that the guy was going to use the reel in colder weather, so I just used Yellow Rocket fuel.   

I must admit that the IAR bearing in reels like the Okuma Akena is more reliable than the one in the Daiwa Luna, so if someone would make a first class third party product for the Luna, I would be happy.

yeah, i always replace a main gear and a pinion gear together.  i also always replace an IAR bearing and inner tube together.

That makes sense with those inner tubes, did not think about that.
