HERTER’S 109

Has anyone done a complete tear down on a HERTER'S 109 /DAM Quick Junior?
I need some help figuring out how to remove the bail arm side opposite the
Line roller/bail spring side. It appears to be pressed in. How can I remove this without damage to the paint?

IF, you think it needs to be removed, Steve (I only remove them if there is a bail replacement needed, or an issue that removal would assist with, or when repainting the reel) — otherwise, they just stay in place and get oiled.

I use a small pair of ignition pliers (possibly one of my most useful and often used tools) — cover the jaws with electrical tape — then rotate and pull out the chrome plated brass male insert (yes, it is just pressed in).

I'm just trying to be thorough as possible on all my rebuilds.
Now I know how to do it if I run into this again.

Got 'er done. It may not be the best D.A.M. ever produced,
but a pretty solid reel with some parts I had never seen before.
Interesting rebuild.
