Penn International II 80STW and 30T drag problems.

New belleville washer, still only get drag about 3/4" to 1" before strike button. What now? Drag works fine just no drag range.

Sounds like your belleville stack may be too short.  Confirm you have the correct orientation, and stack height is similar to what you had before.  Also make sure your cam is oriented correctly.  Play around with the spacing and you should be able to get the desired drag curve/range.

Use a caliper to measure the height of the origional belleville stack including any shim washers that may be thete, and compare to the new stack height.  Make sure all bearings and the spool shaft are fully seated upon reassembly.  If your lever doesn't have the correct smooth travel range.. try removing the cam assembly, flip it 180deg, reinstall, reassamble the reel and test it again.  Yoh can test the cam/lever function before installing the side plate back on the reel.. just put pressure on the pinion bearing and test that it pushes out as u move the lever from free to full, and hack in vise versa.

Just play around a bit and you should figure it out.
