What is the difference between a Black Aluminum spool and a Brown Aluminum spool for Penn 113H & 114H, is it just the color not the construction.

I don't believe Penn ever made a brown spool. The black spools tend to turn brown over time.

I'm with Akfish, the anodized finish looses its color after a while and looks almost brown. It might be coused from a reel that has been fished hard  :-\.
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

x3, I concur... no brownies for Penn.  The older daiwa sealine spools do the same.

Probably the anodizing aging/oxidizing. :-\

Measure once, cut twice. Or is it the other way around? ::)

So, technically speaking the Brown spool will weight less?  ;)

there are some that are high gloss jet black.  the aftermarket spools from accurate and tiburon are like that.  some penns are that color, too.  most of the penn aluminum spools are a matte black and the will change color from fading after a while.

The reason I ask I just bought a new old Aluminum spool in the box and to my surprise it was Brown, it really does not matter I was just surprised.

Thanks Guys
