The Best D-A-M Quick Reels?

Recently acquired full set of "T" handled Royal Mds. 25,35,45,and the 5500mds all MINT never used,spooled or seated. Magnificent reels. The build quality, magnetic drag,such a solid well built reel. I don't know of anyone in the U.S. with a complete set. I'm sure there is somewhere.

Nice collection .. Do you fish with one ? Kinder wonder how the magnet drag works and feels .

I did have a complete set of (4) that were mint, in boxes, and never fished.  But since I am not a collector, just a reel mechanic —- got tired of everyone wanting to buy them when they came to the shop —- and gathering dust on the shelves.

So I sold them.  2 to a husband & wife who regularly fish the two big lakes up in the NWT for large Lake Trout.  One to a collector who never fishes, and gave another to a close friend.

The only differences between these and the '01 series is the MDS system, "S" line connector piece, the drilled spool, and the gold anodizing.

When fished, after a while —- the gold anodizing shows signs of wear and scratching.  But they are very pretty and impressive to have.

It's a beautiful set to collect Don .I fish with  DQ reel and happy with 01 and 02 reels ,saving for next generation but they seem like Shimano better

Nice. I wonder how much difference the oscillating line lay makes in practice? I've never had my hands on one of these MDS series reels. I do have a few Mitchells with "planimetric" gearing (314, a clunky old beast, and 308/408, much nicer micro reels) and it looks cool, but in practice I find marginal if any impact for lightweight fishing at moderate range. A 1* series MDS reel? One of the reel-hackers here can surely do something radical to the insides  of a 110 and a lathe? Greetings from NL. Lorcan

Line lay: It is an improvement, but not enough for use braided line.

I have not forgotten this .   I was able to get a better line lay with making my own spools longer for braided line .  Someday I will sit down long enough and make one !

While I am here , I did get my first 3002 .  It needed a complete bail assembly .   Many Thanks to Fred for keep stock for all these reels ..
