To remove the sideplate bearing/bushing in an Abu Garcia reel the idler gear has to come off. In the older models an e-clip holds the idler gear in place and the job of removing it is very easy. The newer models and production runs have the idler gear affixed to its post by click fixing. The problem can be corrected by cutting the dimple on the idler gear with an X-Acto knife or a scalpel and then affixing the gear with an e-clip.
