how strong are the old steel gears in the penn 113h compared to the stainless.

broadway

They're strong, but grease, grease, and more grease!
Dom

Alto Mare

x2 on Dom's answer. Steel gears are strong but the rust will get the best of them if not greased properly. I'm not so sure that the H models had steel gears though :-\.

So if I have steel gears for the 113 they are lower ratio than the bronze ones?

Alto Mare

No, now we're talking about something different. The 113 earlier model had the steel gear, the later models had the bronze gear. The ratio stayed the same , I believe it is 2:1 ratio.
