I'm stuck again, and I need your help.
After landing two fish of a lifetime at Cedros Island last August My Tranx 400 took a dump.
When I got back home and pulled it apart the bering under the drive shaft had been completely destroyed.
I bought a replacement and realized the outer race of the destroyed bearing is stuck in the frame, I can't get it to budge.
Have any of you ever experienced this? I'm afraid to go digging to aggressively to get it out, I don't want to damage a very expensive reel.

Please see pictures and thank you for always helping with your wisdom and advise.

My experience is that the bearing under the drive shaft is the most vulnerable  of all the bearings, which also applies to reels from different manufacturers.

Unfortunately I don't remember one that was so stuck that I could not remove it, but am sure it can happen.

Search this site, there are many threads on stuck bearings, like this one    https://alantani.com/index.php?topic=28503.0

Good luck

The last resort after everything else fails is to use a Dremel or Foredom with 3/32 inch carbide bur to cut a slot in the race.

ReelClean

Try hitting it with penetrating oil and sticking it in the deep freeze for a day or two, might shrink enough to move?  I suspect it will come eventually, I find my patience is usually rewarded.

I would try two common head  nails or paint can openers and use them like a lady slipper pry bar .

for that last resort, you can also use a diamond-dust bit,
but don't cut all the way through the steel, or you'll likely damage the alloy frame
better off cutting several slots, part of the way & the race should "release" or break apart

I only have the bigger one on the right & it's my favorite Dremel bit

Thank you all for the great advise, This forum always comes thru and I will be trying all of these excellent suggestions to get this bearing race out. I love this reel and need it back in working order before the season starts up again.

You guys are the best!

MarkT

I use a box nail and cut part of the head away and hold it with some visegrips.

Thank you all for your suggestions, thought I'd post the result. I used oil to loosen the race and used MarkT's suggestion. I ground two nails and put them in vice grip to pull the busted outer race out of the frame. Thank you MarkT, Man did I fret about how to get that thing out and tried prying it out so many different ways.

Thank you all again.

Jerome.

Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.
