Hello
How do you remove the main drive gear bearing from the cover? the main gear will not
budge lightly tapping the gear shaft that seems to be stuck in the bearing.

You will probably just need to get a little more aggressive with it.

Is this the cover bearing, or the frame bearing?

Does the bearing turn freely?

Must be salt-fused or crudded up to be stuck.

A photo or two would help us to help you.

It has to come out to be serviced correctly.

Make sure you are using a nylon faced hammer or a hardwood mallet —- also make sure the sideplate or frame is supported by blocks of wood to get a good removal with no damage.

When reinstalling the bearings in these —- and most spinning reels —- I coat the outside of the bearing with grease in addition to the races & balls.  This is so that the bearing is easy to get out for the next service.

Glad to help — and if something gets ruined during surgery —- I have parts available.

Best, Fred
