I started out on this marbling job telling myself this is just the base coat and I'll be adding more. But then I ended up trying a completely different approach. And now I'm wondering if this even should get an additional layer of color (would get a clear coat either way), or should I leave as is?

If anything I was considering adding some black swirls to add negative space, but I'm scared of ruining something already good.

Agreed as well!  Looks perfect as is.

That is beautiful and unique as is.

Leave it alone —- you are there.  It turned out great.

With your skills —- another one will be made anyway.

Maybe a 66" ultralight glass one using black, red, and silver for the DQ 1000.

When it looks good, it looks good. Just put a clear on top of it because it looks great the way it is! Sometimes you just do it right the first coat and trying to improve it may or may not make it look any better. I have learned the hard way on this!

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna leave it as is. More pics to follow when I finish. In case anyone was wondering, I'm going blue and gold on this one.  :d

Jason I would be stoked to have a rod like that: leave it be!  You have so many good ideas and have expanded your rod building so much: I'm really looking forward to your next rod, or your rods 5 years from now!

Just bear in mind your guides and thread color can give you the negative space ...

I think it's finished now. Why do people not often do hook keepers on conventionals? More pics to come.
