7500C problem?

I picked up one of these used - if you can call it that as it looks like it has never been fished with. The gears wouldn't engage properly when the end cap was loose. When I tightened it up to give a bit of tension they seem to engage alright. Is this normal - I have never encountered it on my other ABU's?

Also the other day while fishing with it the gears were a bit rough while winding under tension, which got me worried again. I gave it a complete overhaul with new oil and grease and have yet to try it again. I hope it was a lack of lubrication problem and not related to the first observation.

Thats what it sounds like OLD GREASE and a good cleaning probably took care of it .

Yes I hope so. I removed all the old grease with solvent. It must have been sitting around for over 15 years.
