New makaira 30 won’t go into low ????

Two arrived today.  Both spoiled and NIB.   These would be my 4th and 5th.  Familiar with the reels as they should operate.  One of the two won't push into low.  Thoughts?   

I'm running out of time to send it back.  Also very embarrassed to see the buddies tomorrow who are perplexed by my decision to keep buying these things.  That is way less of an issue. Miss importantly I want this working but I'm going on a three day trip next Friday weather permitting.  Ugh.
